If you don’t have the desire nor capacity to take something extra on; it’s okay to say ‘no’. Practice saying ‘no’ out loud, provide context on why you can’t help and offer small ways you can help. Some useful ideas here and here).


Why?

Saying ‘no’ is hard as we don’t want to offend people or not be seen as a team player. Taking on too much can be detrimental to your health, other projects and overall sanity. However, being firm with your ‘no’ with valid reasons and offering small ways you can help shows willingness and respect for the other person’s request.


You know it’s working when:

  • You feel positively about saying no

  • The other person respects your ‘no’

  • It becomes easier to do
