Leading Change

We default to asking people the same generic questions they tend to ask us at work (‘how are you doing?’) and we tend to get the same replies (“I’m good” or “I’m busy”). Try these out the next time you meet someone and see what you learn:

- Are you well?

- Has today been a good day?

- What problems or challenges are you tackling at work?

Why?

Switching away from default questions and answers, will change the conversation you have. Taking a genuine interest in others shows you care, builds trust and could provide new opportunities, perspectives or insights. Plus they are more likely to take an interest in you.

You know it’s working when:

  • You learn something new about someone

  • You listen more to others

  • You create better connections with others
